Johnny Gill considers himself still a winner on his new album "Still Winning". The album contains ten tracks and it is all about love and relations. Johnny Gill is innovative in finding new ways to express romance.
We know Johnny Gill especially from hits like "My, My, My," and "Rub You the Right Way. He also was one third of the trio Levert Sweat Gill(LSG) that focussed on R&B. On this album you will find a track with Keith Sweat and Eddie Levert the father from the late Gerald Levert
It is the R&B music that Johnny Gill continues with on the album "Still Winning". The title track is in fact an announcement and a cry of victory that Johhny Gill is still going strong. In "Let's Stay Together" Johnny has all the good symbols to embody this nice song. A lovely song is "Black Box". The idea to use a black box to check where love went wrong is original. The song "My Love" feels mighty real. In this song Johnny at times reminds you of the great singers like e.g. Teddy Pendergrass especially towards the end of the song. It has the calibre of a song like "All By Myself" from Eric Carmen. On two songs it feels like there is a bit of an influence from Lionel Richie and The Commodores. The songs are "2nd Place" where you might think of "Three Times A Lady" and "It Would Be You" which seems inspired by "Easy" (TA).
