“Where
there’s smoke there is fire,” the saying goes. But where
there’s smoke and fire, it just might be a live performance
by a certain funkomatic group of Memphians who have been setting
audiences ablaze for the past three decades.
Fire, smoke, vibrant
costuming, and even a live, 12 foot Python snake are all just part
of what’s in store for audiences these days at a typical stage
performance by the Bar-kays. While spontaneity and excitement have
been a trademark of the group ever since their inception in the
late 60's, it’s meaningless without the one component which
cannot be compromised—phenomenal trend setting music. And
it is with the release of “HOUSE PARTY” that The Bar-kays
continue their legendary hit making pedigree.
40 years after their
first smash single, “Soul Finger” set the course, The
Bar-kays prove they still have it with a set of high energy urban
funk tracks that sound like nothing else on today’s recycled
R&B scene. The first single “Sho Nuff” is masterfully
produced by none other than JAZZE PHA, one of today’s hottest
and most accomplished producers. Jazze also appears on the track,
and reaction to the single is as blazing as the song itself, with
early and solid play in markets like Memphis, New Orleans, Augusta,
Lttle Rock, Jackson, and National play on Sirius Radio, This is
only a start, as a full urban radio campaign is set to take hold
and propel “HOUSE PARTY” to the top. Another musical
highlight in an album full of them is “Let’s Ride”
featuring the legendary 3-6 Mafia!
With a career total of
27 LP’s, including 5 gold and 1 platinum, 37 single releases
and 28 Top Ten singles, the Barkays can expect to add to those figures,
and expand on their legendary status.
With a renewed interest
on today’s scene for many adult urban driven acts that have
withstood the test of time, The Bar-kays are set to take advantage
and introduce the world to the sound that has made them legends,
while staying current and hip enough to capture today’s youthful
ears. |
